Wedding ban ends Left’s plan to let 16-year-olds vote

-

PARLIAMENT has backed a Bill to raise the minimum legal age for marriage from 16 to 18.

It is a sensible proposal that aims to stop the coercion of teenagers into forced unions.

In the last year, there have been 76 known cases of child marriage in England and Wales.

One unintended consequence of the measure is to demolish comprehensively the argument for lowering the voting age to 16, a favourite cause of the Left.

If under-18s are deemed too immature to marry, they are too impressionable to have a say in running our country.

A SURVEY by property website Rightmove has named Hexham in Northumberland as Britain’s happiest place to live.

With its cobbled streets, beautiful abbey, community spirit and riverside location, the town is a worthy winner.

Interestingly, of the top 10, just two – Hove and Richmond upon Thames – are in the South East, proving affluence is not everything. It can be grim down South.

HARRY POTTER author JK Rowling, below, says she has received enough death threats from transgender activists “to paper my home”.

Yet she refuses to be silenced or intimidated. In fact, her courage and gift with words shine through her defiant message to her ideological tormentors:

“Perhaps the best way to prove your movement isn’t a threat to women is stop stalking, harassing and threatening us.”

SHAUNA O’BRIAIN, known as MC Angel, the organiser of a shameful Remembrance Sunday Imperial War Museum rap event that caused offence with its rants about race and Churchill, came out with this gem to justify her actions.

“Everyone’s opinions are equally valid.”

Not when they are based on ignorance, prejudice and twisted ideology. Nor are her words even true. Nothing infuses the woke brigade with more frenzied passion than a desire to silence opponents.

Anyone defending the Empire in front of MC Angel’s crowd would be shouted down in an instant.
