Rape case PC faces 13 more sex charges against women

- By John Twomey

A METROPOLITAN Police officer accused of raping a woman he met on Tinder is facing a further 13 charges.

PC David Carrick, 46, appeared in court yesterday accused of carrying out sex attacks on three more women.

Carrick, who served with the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, was last month remanded in custody after he was charged with raping a woman he met on dating app Tinder in August last year.

The officer, who has been suspended from duty, appeared at Westminster magistrates court by video link yesterday from high security Belmarsh prison in southeast London.

He spoke to confirm his name and date of birth before a summary was read out of the 13 further charges relating to three women.

They cannot be identified because they are alleged victims of sex offences, said to have taken place between January 2017 and July 2020.

Carrick, from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, was not asked to enter pleas to these charges.

Chief magistrate Paul Goldspring sent the case to St Albans Crown Court to be joined with the previous charge of rape, which he denies.

His lawyer Patrick Hill made no application for bail and the senior district judge remanded Carrick in custody ahead of a hearing on December 3.

Mr Goldspring told Carrick that two of the charges could be tried by magistrates but they are related to the other 11 charges, which are indictable only.

It meant that all the cases had to go to crown court.

The 13 further charges are three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, two counts of assault by penetration, two counts of coercive and controlling behaviour and one count of false imprisonment. He also faces one count of attempted assault by penetration and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.
