I OWE LEEDS
Bielsa vows to pay back club’s faith
MARCELO BIELSA has promised to battle to end Leeds’ slump, claiming he owes the club and the fans.
His team are one place above the drop zone ahead of tonight’s clash with Brighton and Bielsa said: “I have to fight to deserve what Leeds have done for me.
“Because of what they pay me, because of the affection I receive and because of the construction of the project here, whether that be the investment in the facilities or the footballers.
“The least I can is be grateful and fight against the adversity as a minimal response to what I have received.
“In a club that’s bought Rodrigo Moreno, Dan James, Raphinha, Diego Llorente, Junior Firpo, Robin Koch, many signings, the capital invested means I have been given the resources.
“I think the club have put enough resources at my disposal for the results to be different.”
Leeds have won just two league games this season but the 66-year-old Argentinian refuses to blame a lengthy injury list.
Bielsa insists the buck stops with him and says the club and the fans deserve better than to be languishing in 17th spot.
“I can’t attribute the position in the table to the injuries, nor to an insufficient amount of players,” the head coach said.
“Of course it worries me the position we occupy in the table. “I’m in charge of a group of footballers who warrant and deserve to be in a higher position and the club has trusted in me. “One of the aspects which shows this confidence is what they pay me to do this job and of course these results are not what’s expected.”
The Amex Stadium will be a tough place for Bielsa to halt the slide, with Graham Potter’s Brighton ninth in the table and having done the double over Leeds last season.
