Acid attack doctor needs £60k to treat injuries

- By Mark Reynolds and Jaya Narain

A JUNIOR doctor who had acid thrown in her face by her ex-boyfriend needs more than £60,000 of medical treatment.

Rym Alaoui, 25, suffered “horrific, life-changing” injuries in the attack in May.

Milad Rouf, 25, was later sentenced to 15 years after pleading guilty to throwing the acid with intent to maim and disfigure her.

They had dated briefly at Cardiff University but after they broke up in March, he plotted his “revenge”.

Wearing a fat suit and dressing as a woman, he travelled from London to her home in Brighton with the acid.

Speaking for the first time yesterday, her heartbroken family said the junior doctor now faces years of painful surgery – and is desperate to return to her dream job.

Her sister Alya Alaoui said: “Everyone knows how kind, loving and caring she is. We want to give her every chance to get back to a normal life.”

But she explained essential private treatment for her sister, who worked at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, will cost £60,000.

Launching a fundraiser, she wrote: “Her injuries have turned out to be more serious than we expected.

“Rym has suffered severe injuries to her face, neck, chest and arms. She’s still unable to see out of her right eye. She’s had seven operations including skin grafts to her neck and chest and surgery to her eye.”

She added: “Doctors have said she’ll need many more. This includes a reconstruction of her neck, specialised laser therapy for scarring and surgical needling.”

She added: “As a family, our funds are running low and we’d really appreciate any help.”

Last night the appeal had raised nearly £35,000.
