Leeds in dock after Bees duo targeted by home fans

- By David Anderson

LEEDS are being investigated by the FA after Brentford’s Sergi Canos and Bryan Mbeumo were allegedly hit by objects thrown by their fans.

The FA have launched a probe after referee David Coote included the incident – which occurred during the 2-2 draw at Elland Road on Sunday – in his match report.

Leeds could be charged with failing to control their fans if the FA rule they did not do enough to prevent Canos and Mbeumo being targeted.

Canos, right, was celebrating with his team-mate in front of the home supporters – after his goal had put Brentford 2-1 up – when what appeared to be at least one plastic bottle was aimed at them.

He fell to the ground, holding the back of his head, and Mbeumo also rubbed his head.

Leeds director of football Victor Orta was also involved in a furious bust-up with a home supporter.

He took exception to comments made during the game and put his finger to his mouth to signal to the fan to keep quiet when Patrick Bamford equalised in added time.

Orta then had to be restrained in the directors’ box as he attempted to get to the supporter after the final whistle.

Leeds were forced to apologise for the behaviour of some of their fans after last Tuesday’s victory over Crystal Palace – when they taunted the Eagles’ on-loan Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher with homophobic chants. Bamford’s goal on Sunday, on his return after 11 weeks out with ankle problems, helped put his injury hell behind him. “It’s been frustrating because it’s one of those injuries that can drag on,” he said.
