PICKS OF THE DAY
Design: Interior Design Masters With Alan Carr, BBC1, 9pm
The remaining aspiring designers continue to transform ordinary spaces with their imaginative ideas. In episode four, the candidates hit the high street in Salisbury, where they work in pairs to give three businesses – a bridal shop, a homeware shop and a lingerie shop – a new lease of life. The designs range from the theatrical, with bold colours and wallpapers, and a cool, contemporary theme, to a safe, colourless look that plays into the hands of an owner who was worried about change. Funnyman Alan Carr (left) follows their progress, while retail expert Mary Portas joins interiors guru Michelle Ogundehin (left) to offer her thoughts on the finished looks.
Animals: Secret Life Of Farm Animals, BBC4, 8pm
The documentary follows a litter of piglets from birth as they grow up in the picturesque Brecon Beacons. The theory that every piglet (left) always returns to the same teat to suckle is tested, while other interesting facts are revealed about pigs and their love of mud. The animals’ intelligence is demonstrated with a series of tricky puzzles, and it is shown the species can be masters at the art of deception. The show also visits a farm that uses llamas to guard its sheep.
Technology: The Gadget Show, C5, 7pm
In this week’s episode, Harry and Jordan share the inside track on what is hot in the world of gaming, and Jon Bentley (above, left) joins a turntablist to test out three pairs of on-ear headphones. Elsewhere, Jordan manages to get her hands on the newest addition to the VR gaming world – the HTC Vive Flow, and there is another edition of TGS Rewind. Also featuring Craig Charles, Georgie Barrat and Ortis Daley (all above).
Film: Tomb Raider, C5, 11pm
This 2018 action adventure is the third instalment in the Tomb Raider film series. Heiress Lara Croft refuses to believe her father, a famed explorer, is dead. When a mysterious message reaches her, she ventures to a remote Japanese island hoping to find out the truth about what really happened. Featuring a great cast including Alicia Vikander (above), Dominic West, Kristin Scott Thomas and Walton Goggins.
Documentary: Putin, Russia And The West, BBC4, 9pm
Another chance to watch the 2012 documentary charting Vladimir Putin’s rise to the top in Russian politics and how he has maintained his hold on power despite increasing unrest in the country, including allegations of electoral fraud and thousands of protesters taking to the streets of Moscow. It includes interviews with senior colleagues and Western politicians that Putin (right) has fallen out with, analysing how he became a key ally of the West.
