Harry ‘wants to join his grandmother’s big day’
PRINCE Harry’s aides are making plans for him to be by the Queen’s side to attend the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, it can be revealed.
Despite the Duke of Sussex saying he has not decided whether to attend, advisers say he wants to fulfil the monarch’s wish for him to join his family.
However, Harry and Meghan’s attendance would cause a headache for Buckingham Palace amid rifts intensified by Harry’s latest interview on US television.
The duke claimed that on his visit to see his grandmother ahead of attending the Invictus Games in the Netherlands he wanted to make sure she was “protected” and has “got the right people around her”.
Sources close to Prince Charles say he is “at a loss” to explain his son’s comments.
Harry, 37, also confirmed he wants son Archie, two, and daughter Lili, 10 months, to meet their great grandmother and wants a family reunion. When asked by Hoda Kotb of
US breakfast show Today if he is going to make the Jubilee, Harry said: “I don’t know yet, there’s lots of things – security issues and everything else.”
He was referring to the legal wrangle with the Government over its decision to take away his taxpayer-funded security.
Harry claims his family are “unable to return” as it is too dangerous. However, sources close to the Sussexes confirm he is “in favour” of attending.
Harry and Meghan, 40, have been invited to appear on the palace balcony during Jubilee festivities from June 2-5.
Plans
A source said: “Harry is certainly in favour of going, so naturally plans are being put in place for him to make the trip should he want to confirm.
“There is the issue of security and the ongoing court case, which needs to be sorted out. Previously it was a red line but there might be a resolution in the offing.”
Harry watched powerlifting and basketball at the Invictus Games yesterday. He is set to give a speech at today’s closing ceremony.
