This Chilean white is a great-value wine to start your viognier voyage of discovery. Absolutely bursting with peach aromas, it’s rounded and full-bodied (for a white) on the palate. Available from The Wine Society.
2 La Combe Pilate Viognier (£13.50, 14.5%)
From French producer M. Chapoutier, a classy and delicate white with a more savoury finish than is perhaps typical. Delicate notes of bergamot balance with mineral tones. Available from London End Wines.

Another decently-priced bottle, from French family producer Laurent Miquel, this is about as typical an example as possible: aromas of peaches, citrus and honeysuckle abound. Delicious. Available from Sainsbury’s.

Named after South Africa’s Cape honey bee, a really fruity white filled with peach, citrus fruits and apricots with a touch of musk. Refreshing, crisp and highly enjoyable. (From £9.99 for a mixed 6) Available from Laithwaites.

Another light yet flavoursome white wine, pears, peaches and apricots jostle for attention on the palate. Produced by Luis Felipe Edwards, Chile’s largest family-owned winery, with grapes from the prolific Rapel Valley region. Available from Majestic.
6 Yalumba Y Series Viognier (£9, 13.5%)
Honeysuckle aromas pave the way for flavours of peach, apricot and just a touch of grapefruit on the palate. Another great wine. Available from The Co-op.
