This is the second vintage from a new estate in

Esporão Bico Amarelo, Vinho Verde 2020 (£9.50, 11.5%)

northern Portugal so it’s a work in progress but the signs are all good. Generous hints of citrus and a smattering spice on the palate. Love the stylish bottle, too. Available from The Wine Society.

5 Rainha Do Mar Fernão Pires 2020 (£8.99, 12%)

This award-winning white is dry as a bone, crisp on the palate and lip-smackingly savoury – a great swap if robust reds aren’t for you. Available from Laithwaites.

6 Quinta do Noval Late Bottled Vintage 2016 (£26, 19.5%)

An unusual port (reflected in its price) in that the grapes come from a single source, Quinta do Noval’s own vineyards at the heart of the Douro valley. Deep rich red with aromas of cherries and fresh red fruits on the palate.
