Coro-nation

- The Scout (Chris Goulding)

COROEBUS represents the value to upstage his stablemate and red-hot favourite Native Trail in today’s Qipco 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Last season, the colt, winner of two of his three starts, was unfortunate to be beaten.

On his penultimate start at Newmarket, too much use was made of him when chinned close home by Royal Patronage.

He bounced back on his return to Newmarket to beat Imperial Fighter in the manner of a colt with a big future.

And unlike his stablemate, COROEBUS (3.40, nap, ITV) is guaranteed to stay today’s mile.

Native Trail cannot be faulted and, rightly, was judged the best colt in Europe last year, but his pedigree suggests he will be found out in the season’s first Classic.

Perfect Power comes into the equation after his impressive victory at Newbury 14 days ago where he beat Lusail. But his headstrong tendency will not be suited by Newmarket’s open straight.

Royal Patronage, who beat

Dubawi Legend at York last season, offers the each-way value at 33-1.

TACTICAL (1.50, ITV) will appreciate this drop in grade.

This Group Two winner has some solid credentials and Ryan Moore is a significant booking.

MOVIN TIME (2.25, ITV) has plenty of weight but this useful performer will have his cause helped by the capable apprentice Harry Davies taking 7lb off his back.

The race conditions will enable TIS

MARVELLOUS (3.00, ITV) to turn the tables on Hurricane Ivor (3lb worse off) who beat him a length at Newbury last year.

At Goodwood, ZANBAQ (2.40, treble, ITV) can justify her Royal Ascot Group One entry by taking the Everyday Handicap.

At Thirsk, class act ASTRO KING (2.05, nap, ITV) has the superior class to defy his top weight in the Fitzdares Thirsk Hunt Cup.

He ran a blinder at Royal Ascot last season when runner-up to RealWord in the Hunt Cup,

off a 4lb lower mark.
