‘New evidence’ that could solve Madeleine case
INVESTIGATORS say they have found damning evidence against the man they believe kidnapped and murdered Madeleine McCann.
German prosecutors would not discuss claims fibres from the tot’s pyjamas were found in Christian Brueckner’s camper van.
But lead lawyer Hans-Christian Wolters said: “We have found new facts and new evidence.
“We are sure he is the murderer of Madeleine McCann. We are sure he killed Madeleine.”
Mr Wolters spoke on TV as Madeleine’s family marked 15 years since the three year old disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
German rapist and paedophile Brueckner, 45, who is currently jailed in his home country, was named the prime suspect in 2020. Inquiries revealed he was close to the scene in the Algarve resort when Madeleine, of Rothley, Leics, vanished on May 3 2007.
It is claimed fibres from Madeleine’s pink Winnie the Pooh Eeyore pyjamas were found in Brueckner’s VW camper van.
Brueckner denies any involvement in the toddler’s disappearance.
And yesterday his lawyer dismissed claims of fresh evidence against his client. Meanwhile, Mr Wolters told Portuguese TV he could not discuss the alleged find because Brueckner’s legal team had not been officially informed. Brueckner is serving seven years in Oldenburg for raping a pensioner in Praia da Luz in 2005. He will face a new trial after being accused of raping a woman the year before in nearby Praia da Rocha. He is also being investigated for allegedly exposing himself to a girl, 10, on a beach days before Madeleine vanished. Portuguese police have declared Brueckner an “arguido” – official suspect – in the Madeleine case. They have until November 2029 to put him on trial.
