Hairy Biker reveals he’s battling cancer
HAIRY Biker Dave Myers is to undergo chemotherapy treatment for cancer – and joked he would be a “baldy biker for a while”.
The celebrity chef has not divulged precise details, but admitted his prognosis is “OK” and insisted he is “going to be fine”. The 64-year-old found fame as one half of cooking duo the Hairy Bikers, alongside friend and fellow chef Si King, 55.
Speaking to King on their Agony Uncles podcast, Myers said he would be taking a break from filming and certain public events. He said: “I’ve got to come clean now, I haven’t been too well recently and basically, I’ve got to have some chemo. You [Si] know all this anyway.
“So this year is going to be a bit quiet for me, I’m not
going to be filming, some of the festivals…Some may be OK, but basically this year’s a bit of a writeoff for us.
“I have had to speak up about this because I don’t want to hide under a rock, but I would love it if people respected my privacy and just let me get on with it.
“But look, the prognosis is OK. I’m going to be fine.” Talking about his upcoming chemotherapy, he said: “I’ve just got to tuck in, look after myself, eat sensibly and get over this mess.
“I may be a baldy biker for a while, so it’s just a warning. I don’t want to make a fuss about it. I look alright bald, actually.”
King responded: “No, listen, when I first met you, dude, you looked like an upside-down Hells Angel, so I like that. I’ve always liked that look. You look cool.”
Myers has previously spoken about health struggles, including glaucoma – an eye condition that can lead to blindness.
Speaking about the 2018 diagnosis, he said: “I was devastated. If it hadn’t been spotted so early it could have been catastrophic.”
He competed in Strictly Come Dancing in 2013 alongside pro dancer Karen Hauer, and the pair lasted seven episodes.
