Record for ‘unhappy’ Mbappe as PSG held

- JON WEST

KYLIAN MBAPPE became Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time leading Champions League goalscorer on the day speculation swirled that he wants out in January.

The France star is said to be unhappy with playing as a central striker instead of his favoured slot on the left.

Real Madrid and Liverpool are standing by to spark a bidding war for the 23-year-old, whose penalty put PSG in front in a 1-1 draw at home to Benfica in Group H.

Mbappe celebrated his 31st Champions League goal six minutes before the break after Juan Bernat had been fouled in the box by Antonio Silva.

That took him ahead of Edinson Cavani at the top of the pile, on a night when Lionel Messi was out injured.

Benfica levelled when referee Michael Oliver went to his monitor to decide that Marco Verratti had fouled Rafa Silva, and Joao Mario converted the spot kick.

Celtic suffered their third defeat of the campaign, Timo Werner scoring one of the goals as RB Leipzig won 2-0 at Parkhead.

Max Allegri received a vote of confidence from Juventus president Andrea Agnelli after they were humbled 2-0 at Maccabi Haifa.

Omer Atzili’s brace secured a first group-stage victory in 20 years for the Israelis and left Juve’s hopes of qualification hanging by a thread.

Agnelli said: “We feel ashamed. We apologise to our fans but Allegri is the coach of Juventus and will remain the coach of Juventus.”

Holders Real Madrid needed a stoppage-time equaliser from Antonio Rudiger to draw 1-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk in Poland.

Oleksandr Zubkov headed the Ukrainians in front a minute into the second half before ex-Chelsea defender Rudiger nodded home six minutes into added time.

But the German was left bloodied in a collision with the goalkeeper as he scored.
