‘Delusional’ Matt won’t be able to chat to constituents

- By Mark Jefferies at the I’m A Celebrity camp

MATT Hancock will have to eat his words after pledging to stay in touch with constituents while filming I’m A Celebrity – show bosses have poohpoohed the idea.

The ex-Health Secretary was branded “delusional” by one TV insider when his aides insisted he had been given consent to speak to voters in West Suffolk.

Matt even said: “As an MP, my first priority is to my constituents. I have agreed with the show’s producers that

I can be reached at any point on any urgent constituency matters.”

But he will have his phone taken away before the series starts like all contestants.

Executive producer Olly Nash said that was “absolutely” the case this year. And an ITV spokesman said: “You are correct to say that celebs cannot speak to the outside world at all unless there are exceptional circumstances, like an emergency.”

A TV source said: “He is being delusional. You can’t pick up the phone every few hours or write emails to people back home once you get in that camp. It doesn’t work like that.”

ITV have defended their decision to offer a place to a working MP.

Olly added: “It’s always an individual’s choice to come into camp. Nobody has to do the show.”

The former Health Secretary – in charge at the height of the pandemic – quit after breaking lockdown rules.

And more than 25,000 people have signed an online petition created by families of Covid 19 victims demanding he is axed.

Matt arrived in Brisbane on Tuesday and insisted he had good reasons to go into the jungle. He said: “Rather than looking down on reality TV, we should see it for what it is — a powerful tool to get our message heard by younger generations.”

It was revealed yesterday he may dodge some Bushtucker Trials. A source said “Matt got trench foot filming Celebrity SAS so any waterbased tasks would be bad news.”
