MY DREAM CAME TRUE SAYS EMERY

- JAMES NURSEY

UNAI EMERY celebrated a “perfect” first game as aston Villa head coach with an historic win over Manchester united.

Villa had not beaten united on home soil in the Premier league since august 1995.

former arsenal manager emery, 51, said: “i am so happy. i was dreaming of this.

“it was a special day today is all perfect but we have only made the first step.

“we were speaking about the game plan and i think the players did it perfectly.”

emery, right, was without brazil playmaker Philippe coutinho, sidelined by a thigh injury.

coutinho is also set to miss Villa’s next two matches and is a major world cup doubt.

emery said: “he is injured and i think for the world cup he is maybe not available.”

Villa, who have not won away in the Premier league this term, meet united again when they travel to old trafford for a carabao cup tie on thursday. emery added: “this team didn’t keep regularity away, so the next challenge is difficult.

“My challenge here is to be consistent.” united manager erik ten hag called his team “stupid” after they lost for the first time in 10 matches in all competitions. “we were not ready to play from the start,” he said. “we didn’t follow the rules and we lost our battles.

“it is not acceptable – we have to be ready for every game and don’t give games away so easily.

“we delivered too quickly crosses from too far with too much forcing.

“it didn’t help – it was stupid to do that. “we have to bring in crosses in the right moment.

“in the second half also we were too quick putting crosses in.”
