PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Nature: Countryfile, BBC1, 8pm

The team showcases this year’s Big Ramble For Children In Need, with the Countryfile crew spreading themselves around the country in a bid to meet some truly inspirational young people and discover how they have been helped by the charity. Matt Baker is in Northern Ireland with 12-year-old Saul, who has a rare form of dwarfism and, with the charity’s support, an unquenchable thirst for adventure. Anita Rani (left) is in Wales on a testing ramble up the highest peak of the Cambrian Mountains. Charlotte Smith spends a day on the farm in North Yorkshire. And in Scotland, Margherita Taylor meets two teenage friends who are dealing with the death of a close friend.

Comedy: Motherland, BBC1, 9.30pm

Another chance to see the latest series of the hilarious school gate sitcom. With an outbreak of pesky head lice sweeping the school, perpetually harried mum Julia finds herself accused of triggering a second wave. Well and truly ostracised by the other mums, she needs to find a way back into their good books and decides to throw an expensive nit treatment party at her home. Comedy starring Anna Maxwell Martin and Diane Morgan (left) with Lucy Punch.

Homes: Charlotte Church’s Dream Build, Really, 9pm

World-renowned singer turned property developer Charlotte Church (above) has just 13 weeks to finish the biggest, riskiest and most challenging project she has ever undertaken, turning Laura Ashley’s former mansion – the now derelict Rhydoldog – into a healing retreat. While Charlotte suffers anxiety over planning permission for the project, the site’s commercial kitchen springs a huge leak.

Film: Convoy, Legend, 9pm

Arguably the best of all the trucking-themed film offerings which cropped up around the late 1970s and early 1980s. Kris Kristofferson (above) heads up a small, rag tag group of renegade truckers who decide to defy the authorities, not to mention the roadblocks of irascible sheriff Ernest Borgnine, in a journey to remember across America’s heartland. Directed by Sam Peckinpah, and also starring Ali MacGraw.

Sport: The Motorbike Show, ITV4, 9pm

Presenter and dedicated biker Henry Cole (right) continues his tour of the glorious Wiltshire Downs on a new Honda Goldwing. In tonight’s episode he meets historians and cheesemakers along the way, and drops in on the Haynes motor museum. We are also back on the Kawasaki restoration project with custom motorcycle builder Allen Millyard, who fabricates and fits an exceptional exhaust system as part of the latest stage in the bike’s overhaul.
