Conte left fuming as Lingard fires Forest to victory

-

JESSE Lingard showed his true colours for Nottingham Forest to leave Tottenham boss Antonio Conte red-faced with anger.

The ex-England international added to the Italian’s growing frustration with a goal and an assist in Forest’s 2-0 win as the City Ground finally discovered what all the fuss was about.

Lingard’s arrival had been greeted as a statement signing during the summer but he hasn’t been able to even nail down a regular starting spot as Steve Cooper’s side struggle to adapt the Premier League.

Given his chance last night, however, he took it with both hands. Five minutes into the second half Lingard poked the ball towards Renan Lodl, who cut inside before bending a curler past Fraser Forster.

Nine minutes later, Serge Aurier delivered a cross to the far post that was headed back by Sam Surridge and Lingard, below, was there to glance home the second.

West Ham crashed out to Championship side Blackburn after Angelo Ogbonna missed the 20th kick in a marathon penalty shootout.

All of the first 19 spot kicks found the back of the net before the Italy defender hit the bar from 12 yards.

Blackburn had taken the lead after seven minutes when Jack Vale, 21, took a pass from Tayo Eduin and slotted home.

Pablo Fornals equalised and Michail Antonio put the Hammers ahead before substitute Ben Brereton Diaz’s 88th-minute equaliser took the match to penalties.

Nathan Jones was given a first-hand look at the challenge he has let himself in for at

Southampton as they needed spot kicks to get past League One

Sheffield Wednesday. Alex McCarthy proved the hero by saving Dominic Iorfa’s kick to send the Saints through.

Josh Windass had given Wednesday a first-half lead before James Ward-Prowse equalised from the spot. The match ended 6-5 on penalties. Jones will formally be announced as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s replacement today.

Boubacar Traore scored his first Wolves goal to impress new boss Julen Lopetegui’s staff at Molineux.

The Spaniard is due to be unveiled as Wolves new head coach on Monday. But he had six of his staff in the crowd watching their tie against Leeds see if the team can perform a rescue act in the Premier League.

Traore swept home fellow substitute Daniel Podence’s cross from the edge of the box in the 85th minute to secure a 1-0 win.
