French Holocaust denier caught in Fife fishing village

- By Sarah Ward

A FUGITIVE Holocaust denier previously jailed for targeting students with his abhorrent propaganda has been arrested in Fife while working as a private children’s tutor.

Vincent Reynouard, 53, was reportedly using a false identity in the fishing village of Anstruther after evading French authorities for two years.

His arrest on a French warrant follows a hunt by hate crimes investigators that was launched when a memorial to an entire village killed by the Nazis in the Second World War was desecrated.

Graffiti was scrawled at Oradour-sur-Glane in central France reading: “Reynouard is right.” The denier’s convictions date back to 1991 when he was 22 and sentenced for distributing leaflets denying the existence of the gas chambers among high school students.

Five years later he was sacked from his job as a maths teacher in Normandy by the French Education Minister after revisionist texts were discovered on his computer disk.

He was also found giving his students statistical equations regarding the rate of mortality in Nazi concentration camps.

In 2005 Reynouard was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment and fined €10,000 by a court in the commune of Saverne, near Strasbourg, for writing a 16-page brochure entitled: Holocaust?

Here’s what’s kept hidden from you – and sent to French tourism offices, museums and town halls.

Ten years later the fiend, who also claims to be an author, was jailed by a Normandy court for denying the Holocaust in Facebook posts.

His most recent conviction was two years ago for posting another Holocaust denial – this time in a YouTube video. That year, newspaper Liberation identified Reynouard as a prime mover in a network of deniers. He has also been linked to Catholic fundamentalist groups that deny the Holocaust.

Following his arrest, the Campaign Against Antisemitism, which worked with the authorities to track him down, said: “He is a despicable Holocaust denier. For him to have evaded justice, only to settle in the UK as a private tutor teaching children, is intolerable.”

Reynouard is now in the Scottish court system in readiness for extradition to France.
