PICKS OF THE DAY
Homes: DIY SOS: The Big Build For Children In Need, BBC1, 9pm
Host Nick Knowles and the team are in Leeds for this year’s special Children In Need edition of the home make-over show, where they join forces with BBC Radio 2 for one of their biggest projects ever. The women’s charity Getaway Girls have a derelict site to build their new base and need the gang to make their dream come true. But they also need help, so Radio 2 recruits hundreds of volunteers from their listeners, while presenters Sara Cox, Scott Mills (left with Knowles), Rylan, and Trevor Nelson also don their hard hats. Across town, Emeli Sandé coaches the Getaway Girls as they prepare a thank you song for the big reveal.
Nature: Iolo’s Anglesey, BBC2, 7pm
Wildlife presenter Iolo Williams (left) continues his homage to the flora and fauna of Wales’ largest island Anglesey – renowned for its coastal beauty, sand dunes, rocky cliffs and farmland, as well as its spectacular wildlife. Tonight Iolo finds colourful day-flying moths, beautiful orchids and brown hares. He also heads out to the Skerries Islands and visits Wales’ only Arctic tern colony. Near an abandoned farm outside Holyhead, he also finds a fox and a little owl with its chick.
Travel: Griff’s Canadian Adventure, More4, 9pm
Comedian Griff Rhys Jones (above) travels across Canada, from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific northwest, visiting each of the nation’s provinces. His journey begins at the easternmost point in Newfoundland and Labrador, where he gets a taste of these regions’ unique character – from tiny islands, sea shanties and cod tongue, to jellybean houses, noonday cannons and some rather big dogs.
Comedy: Two Doors Down, BBC1, 10pm
We return to Latimer Crescent as Eric and Beth Baird deal with hilariously difficult family members and insufferable neighbours. Michelle is off out so Beth and Eric are looking after Alan, who is laid up on the sofa in a surgical boot and struggling to fend for himself after an accident. Meanwhile, recently single Colin is feeling chipper after a successful internet date, and cannot wait to tell the neighbours about it. Sitcom starring Arabella Weir and Elaine Smith (right).
Film: Behind Enemy Lines, ITV4, 10pm
During a reconnaissance mission over Bosnia, US serviceman Chris Burnett is shot down after photographing evidence of activity in a demilitarised zone. Abandoned by Nato peacekeepers, who believe a rescue mission would threaten the fragile ceasefire, Burnett’s only hope is a commanding officer who refuses to desert a comrade. Wartime action drama starring Owen Wilson (above) and Gene Hackman.
