1 The Wine Society’s Argentine Malbec 2021 (£8.50, 13.5%) Start here for a crash course in Argentinian wine. This great-value malbec is gloriously fruity, deep and dark in colour, with aromas and flavours of red berries and plums with a feisty, spicy undertones. Available from The Wine Society.
2 Mauricio Lorca Angels Selection Pedro Gimenez (£8.99, 12%) Described as a well-kept secret, this crisp white is definitely a treat. Fresh and fruity – apples and grapefruit abound – and just sharp enough to keep you on your toes. Serve chilled and watch the bottle empty. Available from Naked Wines.
3 Zuccardi Los Olivos Malbec (£11.60, 14%) Produced with grapes from Argentina’s Uco Valley, this is as close to a perfect malbec as you’ll get without breaking the bank. Deep red in colour with notes of plum, red berries and a hint of spice and oak in a fruity finish. Available from Cheers Wine Merchants and Noble Grape.
4 Alambrado Malbec Blanco (£11.99, 12%) It’s a shock to the system at first, but this fabulous white is made using malbec grapes (by removing skins and seeds). Fragrant and fruity with a bright citrusy finish. Go on, give it a go! Available from Laithwaites.
5 Domaine Bousquet 2021 Rosé (£11.99, 12.5%) This fabulous pale pink organic rosé is a pitchperfect blend of pinot gris, pinot noir, shiraz and viognier. On the dry side, but fabulously ripe and fresh with flavours of cherries and an orangey zest. Available from Vintage Roots.
6 DV Catena Tinto Historico Cabernet Franc, 2019 (£12, 13.5%) This rather nice cabernet franc comes from a familyrun producer with a long history and it shows in the drinking. Ripe red berries, black pepper and a smooth, long finish make this a lip-smackingly good wine. Available from Tesco.
