Deadly Russian missile attack on city clinic

- By Susie Blann

AT least two people were killed and 20 were hurt when this clinic in the east Ukraine city of Dnipro was hit by a Russian missile yesterday.

President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed it was a crime against humanity while his defence officials insisted it was a serious war crime.

Mr Zelensky said: “Russian terrorists once again confirm their status of fighters against everything humane and honest.

“The victims are being rescued. My condolences to the family of the deceased. We must defeat these inhumans irrevocably and as soon as possible... Our people are the most precious thing in Ukraine.”

Flames poured from the wrecked three-storey building as rescue workers battled to save those injured by the blast.

Pipeline

Elsewhere Ukraine claimed a Russian S-300 missile struck a dam in the Karlivka district of Donetsk, causing the risk of severe floods.

Meanwhile, Russia’s southern border region of Belgorod was shelled by Ukrainian artillery. The town of Grayvoron, just four miles from Ukraine, was under fire for several hours with four houses, a gas pipeline and power line damaged, said governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.

Even closer to the border, a recreation centre, shop and empty house were damaged in the village of Glotovo. There were no casualties.

The Belgorod region was this week the scene of one of the most serious cross-border incursions from Ukraine since Russia invaded it 15 months ago.

Kremlin officials blamed Ukrainian forces but two Russian paramilitary groups said they were involved with the aim of bringing down Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
