At his wits’ end in a declining coastal town, 34-yearold Welshman Herb is struggling with an increasingly estranged son, a nightmare neighbour and a lack of funds as he can’t get a proper job and his benefits have been cut. After discovering Danish convicts live a luxurious lifestyle in a cushy Danish prison he goes to extreme measures to improve his lot. Black comedy drama with Rafe Spall (above) and Simon Lykke.

TV property design guru Kevin McCloud (left) and co-host Natasha Huq follow more innovative and pioneering community projects across the British Isles, including a revisit to the ambitious self-builds in Graven Hill and Glasgow. Tonight, the duo meet couple Jane and Richard who are taking the plunge and building houses three doors down from each other in hopes of providing a new life for the five children they have between them. But whereas Jane’s plan involves a beautifully crafted, more traditional home with a high-end kitchen, her partner Richard has set his sights on building a much more contemporary, minimal and sleek home.
History: The Blackouts Of ’74: When Britain Went Dark, C5, 9pm
Documentary which uses archive footage alongside celebrity recollections to reveal how UK homes were plunged into darkness with electricity rationing (above) thanks to an energy crisis almost 50 years ago. With the government imposing a three-day week for factories, shops and businesses, the situation had a critical impact on the UK economy and households.

Tonight, she focuses on the often polarising conversation surrounding the sex and gender in today’s society, featuring contributions from people right at the heart of this modern-day phenomenon. They include philosopher and writer Kathleen Stock (right), who left her university job after protests about her views on gender self-identification.
