Princess ‘may share her op recovery with public’

- By Giles Sheldrick Chief Reporter

THE Princess of Wales is likely to want to speak about her health when she returns to work next month after her operation, insiders said last night.

Mum-of-three Kate, 42, has been the subject of fevered speculation since she underwent abdominal surgery at a private hospital in London on January 16.

It has only intensified after she released a digitally manipulated family picture on Mother’s Day that later drew an apology.

A source has now suggested matters might be addressed when Kate resumes public duties after Easter.

They said Kate and husband William “are at their most open when out interacting with members of the public and I can see a world in which the princess might discuss her recovery while she meets the public on a return to engagements. If she was going to do it, that’s how she would do it.They will want to be clear and more open, but they’ll do it when they feel ready. I would expect that to be her instinct and it will be her call. They’re not going to be rushed.”

Kate had surgery at the London Clinic, but details of her condition have been closely guarded. She is not expected to return to work until after April 17.

The hospital is where King Charles underwent planned treatment for an enlarged prostate during which doctors discovered an unspecified cancer.

Kate was discharged on January 29 and has since been recovering at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.

Unlike her father-in-law, details of her health have not been disclosed but officials have said it is not cancer-related and she wanted her personal medical information to remain private.

Despite Kensington Palace putting out the edited family photo on her behalf, William and Kate are set to carry on the tradition of releasing pictures to mark their children’s birthdays.

Prince Louis turns six on April 23, and it is expected the couple will release a new image of their youngest child.

The picture of the family released on March 10 was withdrawn by picture agencies which do not allow manipulation. Experts said it appeared aspects of clothing, hair and a window had been altered.

It prompted Kate to issue an apology saying: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”

Despite calls for the original to be published, Kensington Palace said it would not be reissuing the photo taken by William of Kate and their children George, 10, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five.

I’M ABSOLUTELY staggered by the amount of time and energy wasted on discussions about the Princess of Wales’s editing of photo. Lots of us are partial to a bit of picture editing, myself included, but those faceless online users who slag her off – saying, ironically, that she doesn’t have the right to hide anything – annoy me more than you can imagine.

OK, so I am a huge royalist, though I obviously accept that every family has its black sheep… Prince Andrew, I’m looking at you. But on the whole, our Royal Family has been brilliant. Having a nonelected, crowned Head of State is one of the greatest PR tools any country can have, so the continual harassment of Kate is unwarranted.

It always baffles me when republican protesters raise their ugly faces from wherever they usually hide and demonstrate outside with hateful banners, particularly when the royals are having a hard time.

And following his cancer diagnosis, the King has enough on his plate without those scruffy idiots telling him or other senior royals to get lost.

Don’t get me started on the crazy conspiracy theorists with nothing better to do than stir up hate with their disingenuous so-called truth-seeking. Go online and you will find plenty of people suggesting Kate is very ill, or possibly dead. Honestly, the people peddling this nonsense are absolute nutters.

I’m sure the Princess of Wales is fine – not that it’s anyone’s business – and is convalescing, as any of us would be, after a major operation.

As for the King, it is up to Charles whether he wants to share what cancer he has. I decided to share my own diagnosis after getting fed up with people telling me how well I looked. I felt speaking about it would make it less frightening. But it was my entirely my choice to do so.

When you’re in the situation that Charles is in right now, you have no idea what is coming next and some cancer treatments can cause you enormous problems. So let’s leave him and the Princess of Wales to deal what they have to in private.

Long live the King.
