Amy: My very kind message of support from Kate

- By Mark Reynolds

STRICTLY Come Dancing pro Amy Dowden has revealed the Princess of Wales sent her a “kind” message of support as she endured chemotherapy for breast cancer.

Amy, 33, found a lump as she headed to the Maldives last year for a belated honeymoon with her husband, dancer Ben Jones.

She was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and had a mastectomy and chemotherapy.

Amy has now said Kate, 42, sent her a message after telling the world of her own shock cancer diagnosis.

Raw

The dancer told ITV’s Loose women yesterday: “I was lucky enough to meet [Kate] during my chemo treatment, and she gave me so much time. She was so kind.

“Actually, her words were, ‘Let us know if there’s anything we can do’.

“Just knowing that she’s finding out that she has to have chemo and knowing what you have to go for.

“My mum’s had cancer twice and it’s just the thought. [Kate] has to go through it in the public eye and she’s got three young children. I don’t want anyone to go through it, it’s still very raw to me.”

Amy delighted fans in February when she said doctors had found no trace of cancer after months of gruelling treatment. But she warned it would be five years before she could be given the all-clear.

The Princess announced that she had been diagnosed last month, after undergoing abdominal surgery in January.

In an emotional video, she said it had been a “huge shock” and she and Prince William, 41, “have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family”.

Kate added: “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.

Comfort

“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.

“Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”

Amy went on social media to show her support, saying: “The news has personally hit me hard.

“Cancer doesn’t discriminate. There’s no textbook, right or wrong way to deal with a diagnosis and treatment. It’s personal and I really hope all can be kind and support our Princess.

“Sending all my well wishes with treatment ahead and as always to all those affected by cancer.”
