Meghan brings sunshine on her return to Nigerian roots

Splurge of colour in £3k three-year-old dress

THE Duchess of Sussex dazzled in a bright yellow outfit yesterday as she and Prince Harry arrived in Lagos for the final visit of their Nigeria tour.

The couple finished their three-day trip with an excursion to a school being supported by their Archewell Foundation – and then had a meeting with state governor Babajide SanwoOlu at his house.

Meghan kept her vow to ditch her neutral style in favour of bright colours and honour her Nigerian roots.

The 42-year-old previously wore the £3,198 Carolina Herrera frock on their oldest son Prince Archie’s birthday. She also wore it in 2021 when she announced she was pregnant with Princess Lilibet.

Meghan had spoken on Saturday at a Women in Leadership event in the capital Abuja. She said: “It has been a whirlwind 24 hours and I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colour, so I can fit in with all of you and your incredible fashion.”

Keeping her word, she opted for a red ruffled hem mididress. It is the first time the couple have visited the country together and comes days after Harry’s fleeting stay in London. Despite being in the UK, he did not see his father even though it was reported King Charles had agreed to a request from his son to stay in a royal residence as Harry no longer has an official UK home. Harry is thought to have chosen a hotel instead. It is the latest twist in another awkward spell for the father and son, who have different versions of who asked – or did not ask – to see whom. The last time they met up was in February when Harry flew to London to visit Charles after news that the King had been diagnosed with an undisclosed cancer. During the trip to Nigeria to promote their work with the Invictus Games, Harry and Meghan have been accused of using their royal links.

The couple’s chairs were labelled with “Duke” and “Duchess” at an event at the Nigerian Defence HQ.

Royal expert Robert Jobson said: “They seem to be clinging to the very thing they have been trashing.

“It should be Meghan and Harry, not Duke and Duchess, which smacks of colonial days. His mother was simply Diana. It was good enough for her, why isn’t it for him?”
