PICK OF THE DAY
Doctor Who
8PM, BBC1 ‘Get off my planet.’ Following last week’s one-man episode, which culminated with the Doctor’s arrival on Gallifrey, the eagerly anticipated series finale finds his return causing quite a stir in his homeland as, with characteristic defiance, he refuses to kowtow to authority. ‘Who the hell does he think he is?’ demands the President. ‘The man who won the Time Wars, sir,’ comes the reply. And, being a time-travelling war hero, the Doctor, it seems, can do anything – even turn established historical events on their head, so it’s as though they never even happened. But if he does, won’t there be a high price to pay? And, if so – just how high?
Strictly Come Dancing
7PM, BBC1 It’s the always entertaining musicals week in the Strictly studio and, with semi-finals next on the agenda, there’s everything to dance for. As the six remaining couples take to the floor to perform routines in the style of stage and screen musicals, who will end up facing tomorrow night’s dreaded dance-off?
The Great Polar Bear Feast
7PM, CH4 Every year, in early September, an extraordinary phenomenon occurs on Barter Island in north Alaska. Around 80 polar bears (which are usually solitary) gather to tuck into the remains of hunted whales. The crowd of bears grows year on year – but how do they learn about it, and what does it tell us about them?
Casualty
9.05PM, BBC1
With winter tightening its grip, this week’s episode begins with an accident on the doorstep that throws Jacob and Connie together – and ends up ruining Iain’s day. Meanwhile, as Cal strives to put recent events aside, Dixie is surprised to see a familiar face, and a new caricature (sorry,
character) called Jack starts on reception.
