7.30PM, ITV At the age of 27, award-winning comedian Jack Whitehall becomes the youngest-ever host of this long-running bastion of British entertainment – this is the 87th show. Taking to the stage of the Royal Albert Hall (where Prince Harry will be in the royal box), he’ll be introducing an impressive line-up of famous names. Jostling for top billing are Elton John, One Direction, Kylie Minogue, Ricky Martin, Cirque du Soleil, The Corrs, Beverley Knight, Little Mix, Jeff Lynne’s ELO, Josh Groban and Kacey Musgraves, along with performances by the casts of Mary Poppins and The Play That Goes Wrong. Told you it was impressive.

8PM, CH4 In episode two, Kirstie Allsopp marks the 50th anniversary of festive favourite The Sound Of Music by heading to Austria to show us how to make baked tree decorations, mulled wine and woollen mittens. Plus, the bakers and makers throw together gingerbread houses and Christmas wreaths.
