Some of the props in Verloc’s shop have definitely spooked me. I was taken aback when I first saw them – the erotic literature and What The Butler Saw peep-shows – and I did wonder, ‘Was some of this explicit stuff really knocking about back then?’ Apparently it was! It’s all a bit weird – one item in particular is seriously strange – but I’ve had a few weeks to get used to it. Today the director tells me to ‘play around’ with the customers, be a little bit cheeky with them. I rather enjoy saying lines such as, ‘If there’s anything you need, just let me know.’
