The Marvellous World Of Roald Dahl

We know that Roald Dahl was a wonderful children’s author, but there was so much more to the life of this extraordinary man, as this new biography reveals. His story is told largely through his own words, with the actor Robert Lindsay reading through a vast collection of Dahl’s letters and writings. It reveals an action-packed life, from crashing his plane in Africa during the Second World War to working as a British spy in Washington in the 1940s, but also one filled with family tragedy. Long-term collaborator Quentin Blake provides new drawings to help bring Dahl’s story to life in a film that is as enchanting as any of his famous works. Tonight, 8pm, BBC2. Mike Mulvihill
