Proms Extra 6.50PM, BBC2 Katie Derham returns with the first of this year’s Proms companion series. This week, she and her guests discuss Elgar’s Cello Concerto, the gospel Prom and Faure’s Requiem, while cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason – the BBC Young Musician of 2016 – shows off her skills. Alan Carr’s Grease Night 8PM, CH4 Following the film itself at 5.55pm, Alan Carr hosts this live two-hour entertainm­ent extravagan­za – a celebratio­n of both Grease and 1950s Americana – from a 1950s-style high-school prom. Special guests include the 1978 hit’s original Frenchy, actress Didi Conn. The Musketeers 8.30PM, BBC1 When Aramis tries to help Queen Anne to broker peace with Spain, he ends up a hostage of Grimaud, who threatens to destroy Anne’s reputation. Can the Musketeers clear her name?

Mrs Brown’s Boys Live 9.45PM, BBC1 Brendan O’Carroll, the man who created the hit sitcom, has frequently taken Mrs Brown on the road, so he should be on reasonably safe ground in this special edition. However, it is being broadcast fully live, so anything can – and probably will – go wrong.

SUNDAY

Countryfil­e 7PM, BBC1 The team are in Cumbria, where Matt Baker will be marking the 150th anniversar­y of Beatrix Potter’s birth by visiting the places that inspired her work, while Helen Skelton will be trying her hand at a spot of Cumberland wrestling, which is not for the faint-hearted.

Fake Or Fortune? 8PM, BBC1 This week, the team head to Aberdeensh­ire, where Becky Wilson hopes they can confirm that a painting bought by her husband, Neil – who died in 2014 – is by artist Paul Delaroche; evidence suggests that it once belonged to the last King and Queen of France. The Secret Agent 9PM, BBC1 Having recruited Winnie’s brother, Stevie, to aid his bomb plot, Verloc decamps to a cottage in Kent to prepare for his dastardly attack on the Greenwich Observator­y. Back in Soho, Verloc’s wife, Winnie, is finding it hard to resist the advances of dashing anarchist Ossipon.

Dragons’ Den 9PM, BBC2 Entreprene­urs Deborah Meaden, Peter Jones, Nick Jenkins, Sarah Willingham and Touker Suleyman return to the Den, where another selection of budding entreprene­urs have just three minutes to persuade the Dragons to part with some of their hard-earned millions. Fixing Dad 10PM, BBC2 Anthony and Ian Whitington decided to intervene when diabetic dad Geoff was told he might have to have his foot amputated. They got him on a healthy diet, and set him a cycling challenge – and, because the brothers are film-makers, they recorded their father’s transforma­tion in this uplifting documentar­y.

MONDAY

Forces Of Nature With Brian Cox 9PM, BBC1 The good professor concludes his mindboggli­ng series by visiting Iceland, Tanzania and the Caribbean to reveal more out-ofthis-world facts about our wonderful world.

The Somme 1916 – From Both Sides Of The Wire 9PM, BBC2 Historian Peter Barton concentrat­es on the second phase of the battle, revealing how an Allied advance that should have lasted days took months, and resulted in more carnage. Brief Encounters 9PM, ITV Dawn is looking forward to her wedding, but Russell is uncomforta­ble with her grand plans for their big day. Meanwhile, this usually bright comedy takes a turn for the sinister when Steph makes a terrible mistake.

Eden 9PM, CH4 Our 23 plucky volunteers are facing up to the reality of life in the wilds of the Scottish Highlands as they try to settle into their new home. While setting about sheltering and feeding themselves, some are struggling with their feelings of separation from loved ones back home. Still, only 12 months to go… Naked Attraction 10PM, CH4 In this new dating show, singletons will choose a date from a selection of six people, but the twist is that their prospectiv­e partners will stand naked before them in the studio. What would our Cilla have said?

TUESDAY

Love Your Garden 8PM, ITV Alan Titchmarsh and his team head to Southampto­n and the home of Rosie Mitchell, a children’s nurse who also works tirelessly to raise funds for the local paediatric intensive care unit. If anyone deserves a cruise ship-inspired garden, it’s Rosie.

Child Genius 8PM, CH4 It’s the semi-final stage, and quizmaster Richard Osman has some gruelling tests for the ten remaining contestant­s trying to reach the final. Come on, Mog, you can do it! The Living And The Dead 9PM, BBC1 Nathan (Colin Morgan) is determined to rid the village of the murderous spirits that have taken over Shepzoy. The problem is, no one believes him, and he wonders if everything he’s seen and heard is in his mind – but he soon finds out the threat is all too real… New Zealand: Earth’s Mythical Islands 9PM, BBC2 In this second of three episodes, the focus is on the far south of the country, which is home to the Southern Alps and the aurora australis, or southern lights. This wild region is also home to parrots that play in the snow, and to giant carnivorou­s snails with 6,000 teeth. Vice Principals 9.35PM, SKY ATLANTIC See TV feature, page 20. Imagine… 10.45PM, BBC1 Thirty years after the death of painter Georgia O’Keeffe, Tate Modern has mounted a major show of her works. Alan Yentob tells the story of a trailblazi­ng artist who captured the beauty of the American desert.

Eat Well For Less? 8PM, BBC1 In Leicesters­hire, the Taylor family are in trouble: their food spending is out of control – in fact, it’s three times the national average. At least, they’re saving money on cake; mum Lindsey bakes one for the family every day.

Can Gregg Wallace and Chris Bavin set their shopping and eating habits on the right track? The Three Day Nanny 8PM, CH4 Nanny Kathryn Mewes returns for a new series, giving crash courses to despairing parents whose children are out of control.

Gardeners’ World 8.30PM, BBC2 Joe Swift considers ways to give traditiona­l bedding plants a modern twist, while Monty Don sets to work pruning his pear trees at Longmeadow. Plus, there’s a look behind the scenes of the gardens at Waddesdon Manor in Buckingham­shire. Long Lost Family 9PM, ITV This week, 50-year-old Deborah is desperate to meet her birth mother who, at 17, handpicked the parents she hoped would give her daughter a good life. They did, and Deborah would love to thank her. Hankies at the ready.

24 Hours In A&E 9PM, CH4 Every week, this series serves as a reminder of the invaluable work of the NHS. In the wards this week are 12-year-old Tulsi, who is airlifted to St George’s after falling from a cliff near her home in Hastings, while 39-year-old Adam has life-threatenin­g injuries following a motorbike crash. Luckily, they’re in safe hands.

THURSDAY

Celebrity MasterChef 8PM, BBC1 Finals week begins here, and the last chefs standing – Sid Owen, Louise Minchin, Jimmy Osmond and Alexis Conran – will be tested to their limits. They start with John Torode’s palate test, in which they have to identify and then re-create a complex dish. Only three cooks will go through to tomorrow’s decider.

Full Steam Ahead 8PM, BBC2 In this second of this six-part history of steam trains, Ruth Goodman, Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn head for Beamish in County Durham, where Ruth tests the comfort of early passenger wagons – hardly the Orient Express – while Peter and Alex go to work as navvies.

The Investigat­or 9PM, ITV This week, Mark Williams-Thomas finds a letter from Carol Packman’s husband, Russell, to his lover that could lead to Carol’s remains. 999: What’s Your Emergency? 9PM, CH4 This episode of the gripping fly-on-the-controlroo­m-wall series explores the complex issues surroundin­g the care of people with mental health problems, and the increasing role that police and ambulance staff now have to play in supporting those who are affected.

Celebrity Big Brother: Live Launch 9PM, CH5 There’ll be more tears and tantrums as a new batch of celebritie­s – some of whom you may actually have heard of – enter the house.

FRIDAY

Celebrity First Dates 9PM, CH4 In the restaurant of love this week is Musharaf Asgar, the stammering pupil featured in Educating Yorkshire, who is embarking on his first-ever date – and he’s brought along his teacher, Mr Burton, for support. Aaah.

Clare Balding Meets Louis Smith 10PM, BBC2 In the latest of her series of chats with British sport stars, Clare Balding talks to the Olympic silver medal-winning gymnast about his preparatio­ns to go for gold in Rio. Friday Night Dinner 10PM, CH4 As the chaotic comedy continues, panic spreads through the Goodman household when hopeless Dad (Paul Ritter) spills oil on Mum’s beloved carpet, and it’s a race against time to clean it up before she finds out.

BBC Proms 2016 10.15PM, BBC4 In January, the world mourned the death of musical pioneer David Bowie; here, selected soloists – from Marc Almond to Laura Mvula – join the avante-garde, Berlin-based music collective Stargaze to celebrate his work with a live concert of reimagined Bowie classics.
