FRANCE Côtes du Rhône Villages 2014, £4.99

This full-flavoured and well-priced red has bold black fruit flavours with a note of spice, and is dry and deliciousl­y easy to drink. Pair it with cold meats and lighter hot dishes such as – it goes particular­ly well with pizza!

ITALY Chianti 2014, £3.99

Italy’s best known red wine, which hails from the region of the same name is easy to drink by itself or good when paired with pasta, pizza, lasagne, cheese and steak. This one has attractive dark fruit, a note of spice and a dry finish.

SPAIN Rioja Reserva 2010, £5.29

Rioja, which is the name of the region the wine comes from (rather than the grapes), can be red, white or rosé, though the reds are most famous. A key point of Rioja is that the producers only release their wines when they’re ready to drink. Best drunk with food.

ITALY Barolo 2011, £9.99

Made from Nebbiolo grapes in the Piedmont region in north west Italy, Barolo is one of the country’s most iconic red wines. Tannic and rich, it’s hailed by some as Italy’s greatest wine. It goes particular­ly well with food from north west Italy – think game, pâtés, pasta, and risotto.

ARGENTINA Malbec 2015, £5.99

Deep red in colour, Malbec from Argentina is glossy, full-bodied, and robust, and fast becoming one of our favourite reds. This has attractive black fruit and a fresh, dry finish, making it easy to drink – it’s particular­ly good with steak.
