IN HIS OWN WORDS: Richard Osman
The Pointless Celebrities (5.10pm, BBC1) co-host is known for bantering with colleague Alexander Armstrong. Here’s what he has had to say about life, love and quiz shows…
On being asked to co-host Pointless, after helping to pitch the programme to the BBC (in his other role as a TV producer):
‘I said “yes”; I was very chuffed. A small run was commissioned for BBC2, so I thought, “That’s fun. At least, I can say I’ve made a TV show.”’
On finding fame:
‘There’s a lot of female attention if you’re on television, and if you’re 25, it might turn your head. At 42, you take it with a pinch of salt. It’s nice to get recognised, but one day, you have a hangover, want a KFC and get spotted in there and think: “Great – not really the classy image I was hoping to achieve.’”
On the odd daft answer from contestants:
‘Sometimes, people say things where you think: “I honestly don’t mind that you think Gordon Brown is a Tory – I’m sure you do other things that are very useful.”’
On the romantic attention he receives on social media:
‘I am almost certainly not going to say yes to a Twitter marriage proposal.’
On his own long-standing crush:
‘Kim Wilde is still my ideal woman, and she still looks amazing. I’ve fancied her nonstop for maybe 33 years now. Kim is married, though – don’t think for one second I haven’t checked that. That’s the beauty of the internet.’
