Hugh’s War On Waste: The Battle Continues 9PM, BBC1

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingst­all (right) continues his mission to get us to change our throwaway culture and cut back on the vast mountains of waste we produce. Having tackled food waste last year, this time, he’s confrontin­g corporate giants, including a triumvirat­e of coffee shops which, between them, contribute to the staggering 2.5 billion cardboard cups we discard annually – 99 per cent of them end up in landfill or incinerati­on. Waste is the one environmen­tal disaster we can all do something about – so what are we waiting for?

Historians Ruth Goodman, Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn continue to examine how the Victorian railways created modern Britain. Episode two of three sees them re-creating the experience of early passengers, finding out who they were and what it was really like to travel by steam train rather than on foot or by stagecoach.

Originally intended to be temporary, the sprawling refugee camp of Zaatari in Jordan is rapidly becoming a permanent, fully functionin­g city. In the second, concluding episode, Anita Rani finds out how the building of a new infrastruc­ture will affect the camp’s 80,000 residents.

As the 18th series of the reality series gets under way, Emma Willis introduces the familiar (or not) faces moving into the house tonight. Expect the usual mix of fading comedians, former sports stars, glamour models and reality TV veterans all hoping to grab a second shot at fame.
