The Thirty-Nine Steps (1959) U 10.55AM, MORE4

Hitchcock’s 1935 version is a tough act to follow, but Ralph Thomas (better-known for his Doctor films) gives it a stab. Kenneth More gamely steps into Robert Donat’s shoes as Richard Hannay, the man caught up in an espionage plot he knows nothing about.

Rosamunde Pilcher: The Unknown Heart (2014) PG 3.10PM, CH5

Part one of an exceptionally starry romance, inspired by the works of Pilcher, about a woman (Carolina Vera) whose affection for her husband and children becomes strained following a heart transplant operation. The story concludes tomorrow afternoon at 3.10pm.

Endearing fantasy romance in which Kathleen Turner’s Peggy Sue travels back in time to her teens in the early 1960s – and gets to see if she would make the same choices again. A fine slice of American Pie nostalgia, co-starring Nicolas Cage as Peggy’s dopey hubby, Charlie.
