The Reunion

11.15AM, RADIO 4 Peter Sutcliffe was questioned in 1979 by two detectives who suspected him of being the Yorkshire Ripper. One of the detectives, Andy Laptew, is on this programme, which reunites some of those involved in the hunt for the Ripper. They recall the early stages of the investigation, the tapes and letters from ‘Wearside Jack’, the arrest of Sutcliffe, and the effect these murders had on women in the north of England. Sue MacGregor hears their accounts of what was, at the time, the biggest criminal investigation in British history.
