6.30AM, RADIO 2 Since 2012, Chris has held two fundraisers for Children In Need each year – CarFest South in Hampshire and CarFest North in Cheshire. As this year’s CarFest South – which brings us both vintage cars and vintage musicians – gets under way, he’ll talk about some of the acts performing over the weekend (The Proclaimers, Status Quo, Jools Holland, Alison Moyet, Rick Astley and Squeeze are on the bill), while ABC will play live.

7.30PM, RADIO 3 Many mysteries surround Mozart’s Requiem, including a story that a cloaked figure arrived at Mozart’s door to commission the piece. Tonight’s all-Mozart concert ends with this powerful work of death, rage, hope and intrigue.
Friday Night Is Music Night
8PM, RADIO 2 The BBC Concert Orchestra will play a selection of songs from British musicals and operettas. The orchestra will be joined by singers Abbie Osmon, Sophie- Louise Dann, Graham Bickley and Scott Davies, while the music is from Half A Sixpence, Matilda, The Boyfriend, The Yeomen Of The Guard and many more.

10.45PM, RADIO 3 Philip Hoare was born and grew up by the sea – and was terrified of it. He finally learnt to swim in a pool in Hackney, when an elderly lady took him under her wing. Now, as he explains here, he swims wherever and whenever he can – even going swimming with whales in the Azores.

11PM, RADIO 3 Andy Kershaw has been out on the Appalachian Trail, where the hills are alive with the sound of talented music-makers. He recorded a session from Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, and from traditional singer Elizabeth LaPrelle. Mary Ann Kennedy also features.
