For Demelza, who’s just lost her daughter and whose husband is facing execution, it’s an emotional time. ‘Elizabeth irritates her and they have an uneasy relationship, but she’s family and Demelza is trying to make things work. But as it goes on the relationship between the two women becomes almost impossible. If Ross is going to misbehave, why should she stay at home and be the loving wife who’s forgotten?’

Like Demelza, Eleanor faced challenges of her own while filming the new series. ‘In one scene I was in a fishing boat and I get terribly seasick so I was terrified. The waves were insane. There’s not a lot I wouldn’t do for the sake of a scene though. I haven’t seen it yet but things like that make iconic moments. I hope it’s one of those because it was blooming freezing!’
