1976

Bernard Braden asked questions of celebritie­s on ITV’s The Sweepstake­s Game. He’d been BBC1’s consumer champion on Braden’s Week until 1972, when the show was axed after he advertised margarine on ITV.

1986

BBC1 drama The Monocled Mutineer, in which Paul McGann played real WW1 deserter Percy Toplis (right), had been promoted as a fact-based true story. However, historical adviser Julian Putkowski said it was ‘riddled with errors’.

1996

Michelle Fairley is famous for Game Of Thrones, but her role as Eleanor Delaney in BBC1’s comedy Safe And Sound went under the radar. Michelle’s appeared in US shows 24: Live Another Day and Suits but once said, ‘I hate everything about Hollywood’.

2006

Connie Fisher sang If I Can’t Have You by the Bee Gees in BBC1 talent show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? – she later won the contest and starred in The Sound Of Music. A throat condition threatened her career in 2011 but she was back on stage a year later.
