PICK OF THE DAY
Celebrity Home Secrets
8PM, ITV In a new series, six celebrities allow cameras into their homes – not only their current residences, but the ones where they grew up or spent key moments of their lives. First up is Nigel Havers (right), who shares some revealing and at times touching insights into his life. He starts at the London flat he shared – from the age of 15, while at drama school – with his barrister father; when he lived there, he met the Rolling Stones. We then follow him around London, from the flat where his career took off, to the house that brings back some very sad memories.
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2016
7PM, BBC1 This year’s pageant, marking the Queen’s 90th birthday, features bands from Jordan, New Zealand and Nepal, plus our own massed military bands. Bill Paterson narrates this highlights show from Edinburgh Castle, which promises to be almost as exhilarating as the real thing.
Ripper Street
9PM, BBC2 Reid is back on the murky streets of Whitechapel as he fights to save his old friend, Isaac Bloom, from the noose, while Jackson has his work cut out saving Long Susan from the same fate. Meanwhile, deeper conspiracies are lurking in the shadows, threatening Drake’s investigation into the murder of the young Muslim lawyer.
The Coopers vs The Rest
10PM, BBC2 This first of a series of comedy pilots, showing over the next two weeks, follows Tess (Tanya Franks), an adoptive mum of three, who goes to great lengths to give her children the best possible childhoods – with awkwardly funny results. The child actors pull off some witty lines, but Outnumbered this isn’t.
