This morning, Russell Finch is joined by the comedian Stewart Lee, the singer Gwyneth Herbert and the musician Nicholas Payton to talk about the origins and misuses of the word jazz.

1.45PM, RADIO 4 (FM) Japanese knotweed was introduced to Britain a century ago, because it looked nice in gardens. It has become such a nuisance that, if you let the plant rampage in your garden, you could have an Asbo and a £2,500 fine slapped on you. This programme looks at this all too successful triffid-like invader.

Cities From The Ashes

8PM, RADIO 4 (FM) London has known much destruction over the centuries, most notably from the Great Fire and the Blitz. Nicholas Kenyon, Director of the Barbican Centre, marks the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire with a look at how Britain’s capital recovered from two major disasters. He is joined on the panel by the architects Richard Rogers and Eric Parry.

10PM, RADIO 2 Angela Lansbury, star of theatre, film and television, is now in her 90s, and here recalls some wonderful showbiz memories in conversation with Emma Thompson.

10.15PM, RADIO 3 The jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington has toured with Herbie Hancock, Lauryn Hill and Snoop Dogg. He’ll bring his epic style to this late-night concert, backed by his own band and the string section of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
