A freak accident meant that Clarence emerged from that car paralysed from the shoulders down. In this programme, Clarence talks to Peter White about his musical life since the accident, and his role in creating the British Paraorches­tra.

Johnnie Walker’s Sounds Of The 70s

3PM, RADIO 2 Nigel Clark, the lead singer of the 1990s band Dodgy, joins Johnnie for this afternoon’s show. Nigel bowed out of the band back in 1998, and brought out a solo album in 2006, before returning to Dodgy in 2007. The singer-songwriter shares memories of the music he listened to as a boy in the 1970s, and Johnnie digs out some classic recordings from the BBC archive.

3.45PM, RADIO 3 The zestful Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, open this Prom with a celebratio­n of Latin American music, followed by a tribute to Bach, composed by Villa-Lobos. The concert ends with a waltz by Ravel.

She plays Vaughan Williams’s awesome Sinfonia Antarctica, Howard Goodall’s Shackleton’s Cross and some of the music Captain Scott and his men took with them, on records, on their ill-fated expedition to the South Pole.
