PICK OF THE DAY
Our Girl
9PM, BBC1 As the series returns for a new, second run, Michelle Keegan takes over from Lacey Turner, the original star of this drama about a working-class girl who joins the British Army. Keegan is Lance Corporal Georgie Lane, who, in this first of five episodes, leaves for Kenya on a humanitarian mission, promising to return safely to her fiance in six weeks’ time. Arriving at a refugee camp on the Somali border, Georgie and her unit are immediately struck by the danger and complexity of their mission. They will have their work cut out convincing the locals that their presence hasn’t brought more danger.
The Great British Bake Off
8PM, BBC1 It’s bread week, which puts Paul Hollywood in the driving seat – and poised to get picky over the contestants’ dough. Everyone has a nervous wait while their concoctions prove and, as ever, it’s a balancing act between getting them airy enough but cooked through. Which of the ten remaining bakers will please Paul?
My Congo: Natural World
9PM, BBC2 This superb documentary is a very personal project by Congo-born wildlife cameraman Vianet Djenguet. His country is not Africa’s ‘dark heart’, but a vibrant, happy place of diverse landscapes, where Vianet captures stunning footage of Congo’s wildlife – including elephants and gorillas – and its people.
Paralympics 2016
9PM, CH4 With Britain still on a high from our incredible Olympics performance, it’s time to get behind our Paralympians. Coverage of tonight’s opening ceremony from the Maracana Stadium in Rio is hosted by Clare Balding and Adam Hills, with regular updates on the events on Ch4 throughout the Games.
