Joanna Lumley’s Japan

9PM, ITV The second episode of three finds Joanna Lumley in a helicopter, enjoying a bird’s-eye view of Tokyo’s 5,420 square miles. Bombed extensively during the Second World War, almost the entire city has been built over the past 70 years, resulting in a breathtakingly futuristic-looking metropolis that maintains strong links with the traditions of the past. After dipping her toe in Tokyo culture, Joanna walks an ancient route to Kyoto, where she arrives in perfect time to experience hanami – the traditional celebration of the fleeting cherry blossom season.

Would I Lie To You?

8.30PM, BBC1 Though next year marks its tenth anniversary, this hit show is still as fresh as ever. This week, Rob Brydon, Lee Mack and David Mitchell are joined by Jason Manford, Sara Cox, Harry Shearer – star of The Simpsons and This Is Spinal Tap – and Nick Robinson; one of them claims to have secreted a tube of Pringles in their underwear.

Gardeners’ World

8.30PM, BBC2 This week’s edition finds Weekend’s Monty Don making the most of September’s ideal planting conditions to replenish the borders at Longmeadow. Meanwhile, Carol Klein turns her attention to the wideranging daisy plant family, and Nick Bailey provides a solution for a patch of dry shade in a small garden in Berkshire.

Eat Well For Less?

9PM, BBC1 Gregg Wallace and Chris Bavin are in south London, where the King family’s reliance on convenience food is, rather ironically, equalled by an obsession with organic produce. The result? A supermarket bill that is, on average, three times greater than the norm. Can Gregg and Chris knock some sense into them?
