Cast Away (2000) 12 10PM, SKY DRAMA More about the startling transforma­tion of its star than the plot – which is basically an update of Robinson Crusoe – this desert island tale stars Tom Hanks as the nice guy left to fend for himself after a plane crash. Synecdoche, New York (2008) 15 12.55AM, FILM4 Philip Seymour Hoffman (left) plays a narcissist­ic theatre director putting on a never-ending play about his life in Charlie Kaufman’s typically befuddling tragicomic drama. Samantha Morton is the impression­able fan along for the ride, but being cast aside.
