Cinderella (1950) U 3.10PM, SKY DISNEY Critically speaking, the 1940s were something of a fertile period for Disney, but commercially, things weren’t great until 1950, when they struck gold with this magical musical – a proper ‘Disney princess’ fairytale about a girl living under the thumb of her wicked stepmother. A Daughter’s Nightmare (2013) 12 3.15PM, CH5 One of Ch5’s many ‘nightmare’ afternoon movies, this thriller follows predictable lines. Victoria Pratt plays Dana, a grieving widow who thinks she’s found love again – but daughter Ariel (Emily Osment) is not so sure, especially when Dana’s health starts to fail.

Mud

(2012) 12 6.20PM, FILM4 An intriguing slice of Americana from Jeff Nichols (Midnight Special). In one of his best dramatic roles, Matthew McConaughey is Mud, a crook who befriends two lads (Jacob Lofland and Tye Sheridan, above, with McConaughey) and persuades them to help him to evade the brutal vigilantes that are on his tale. Forrest Gump (1994) 12 8PM, SKY GREATS Life is like a box of chocolates for Tom Hanks’s uncomplicated hero – the simple-minded Forrest Gump – in Robert Zemeckis’s generation-spanning drama. Growing up in Alabama, Forrest makes a lifelong friend in Jenny (Robin Wright, below) as he crosses the country on a series of unlikely adventures.

Bullitt

(1968) 15 10PM, ITV4 Cool, classy cop action, with Steve McQueen taking the lead as laconic law-enforcer Frank Bullitt. Robert Vaughn is the slimy politician he’s sure has something to hide – but what? Beasts Of The Southern Wild (2012) 12 1.40AM, FILM4 Oscar-nominee Quvenzhane Wallis – as a poor Louisiana girl staring tragedy in the face – makes a remarkable debut in this fantastical bayou tale, based on Lucy Alibar’s one-act play.
