4.30PM, RADIO 4 Dadabhai Naoroji became the MP for Finsbury Central in north London in 1892, making him Britain’s first Asian MP. Naoroji, who was a Parsi, was a cotton trader, an educator, a man of great vision and intellect, and one of the leading figures in India’s struggle for independen­ce. In this programme, the chef Cyrus Todiwala tells the story of the man affectiona­tely known as the Grand Old Man of India.

8PM, CLASSIC FM Today is the anniversar­y of the birth of Louis XIII, an event that is seldom celebrated on these shores. Jane Jones marks the Bourbon’s birthday with a selection of French-themed music. There will be works by Lully and Charpentie­r, plus a recording by the orchestra Les Violons du Roy, which was inspired by an ensemble founded during Louis’s reign.
