2.15PM, RADIO 4 This two-part sci-fi crime thriller, by Bafta-winner Trevor Preston, is set in the near future. Turner finds himself caught up in a dangerous criminal world, where power comes from trading in blood and body parts. All very nasty – but compelling.

Choral Evensong

3.30PM, RADIO 3 Choral Evensong is the oldest outside-broadcast programme in the world. The first Evensong went out live on October 7, 1926, from Westminste­r Abbey. Today’s broadcast – on the eve of the feast of St Michael and All Angels – also comes from Westminste­r Abbey, and celebrates that first broadcast.

The Folk Show With Mark Radcliffe

7PM, RADIO 2 Jim Causley, the singer, songwriter and accordioni­st, joins Mark Radcliffe. Jim, who’s from Devon, plays traditiona­l West Country music, and works hard to keep the old songs and tunes of England alive and well. Jim performs some live tracks from his fifth solo album, Forgotten Kingdom.

8PM, RADIO 4 Gordon Corera is joined by journalist­s and editors from the UK, France and Germany to discuss how reporters should cover terrorist attacks with mass casualties, and their aftermath.

10PM, RADIO 2 Armed often as not with three chords and the truth, a battalion of folk singers set off to put the world to rights. Did any of them actually achieve anything? 11.30PM, RADIO 4 Veronica, heavily pregnant, is picking flowers from her garden for her wedding bouquet. It will be a low-key affair with only a few guests, as Veronica’s fiance is serving a long prison sentence. Grace Dent joins Veronica as she goes about the sad business of getting married in a prison chapel.
