£10.50, reduced to £8.50 until 3 October, Marks & Spencer A bargain-priced pinot grigio, this knocks Italian versions off their perch with its haunting perfume, long, lithe palate and crisp acidity. Sophisticated and elegant, this is an unmissable price so don’t delay.

3 2015 Berry Bros & Rudd White Burgundy by Collovray & Terrier, France

£11.95, reduced to £10.75 each in a case of 12, bbr.com A 100 per cent chardonnay from a masterful operation whose wines I adore, this wine has been assembled perfectly with just the right amount of weight balanced by thrilling acidity.

4 2013 Marques de Casa Concha, Merlot, Maule Valley, Concha y Toro, Chile

£11.99, Waitrose I love the power and intensity of flavour in this wine and it wears a fair amount of oak, too, making it exotically perfumed with cinnamon and mulberry notes on the palate. It’s big and bold, so decant it for maximum enjoyment.
