Britain’s Black Past

1.45PM, RADIO 4 Birds call from the salt marshes, and the wind blows across the remote grave of a young boy. Sunderland Point near Morecambe Bay was once a port for ships that carried slaves and cotton. In the first of her two-week series, Professor Gretchen Gerzina tells the sad story of a young black cabin boy who was abandoned on this coastline by his slaveownin­g master. Other forgotten black lives from 18th- and 19thcentur­y Britain will be remembered in the course of a fascinatin­g series.

Euston To Whitechape­l

2.15PM, RADIO 4 Nicola Baldwin’s drama is played out in real time, as a London cab driver picks up a passenger who looks like his estranged daughter and takes her from Euston to Whitechape­l. Meanwhile, a young paramedic is making the same journey with an unconsciou­s patient whose condition is rapidly deteriorat­ing.

5PM, RADIO 3 As part of the 70th anniversar­y celebratio­ns on Radio 3, guitarist Craig Ogden plays live in the foyer of London’s Royal Festival Hall.

The Full Works Concert

8PM, CLASSIC FM To mark its 125th anniversar­y, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra has made some special recordings, which will feature each Monday until Christmas. First up is Hamish MacCunn’s 1887 work, The Land Of The Mountain And The Flood.
