The Apprentice

9PM, BBC1 ‘Behind my boyish good looks is a shrewd businessman.’ ‘All I’ve ever been interested in is money and power.’ ‘I’m an emperor – a true leader.’ Yes, it’s back, the show that sees 18 egotists, sorry, entrepreneurs (including Jessica, right) doing battle in a bid to persuade Alan Sugar to invest £250,000 in their fledgling business. Which of them will prove to be savvy enough to survive the next 12 testing weeks? Their first task is to sort the wheat from the chaff and sell a selection of antiques and collectibles, overseen by Karren Brady and Claude Littner.

Anne Robinson’s Britain

8PM, BBC1 Following last year’s two-parter about our spending habits, Anne Robinson returns to ask more toe-curling questions about Britain’s lifestyle choices in a new series. This first of four episodes finds her investigating 21st-century parenting – and, as you might expect, she has a few thoughts of her own on the subject.

The Fall

9PM, BBC2 Wanting her quarry tried in a court of law rather than in the ‘court of public opinion’, Gibson (Gillian Anderson) is dismayed when her superiors confirm Spector’s name to the press in episode two of this darkly languid thriller. But when she finds herself being interviewed under caution about Spector’s arrest and shooting, things start to go from bad to worse.

Paranoid

9PM, ITV This conspiracy thriller has more twists and turns than the Spaghetti Junction. In episode three (of eight), Linda has a breakthrough in Dusseldorf, and she starts to believe that Ruben Locana’s death wasn’t an accident. Meanwhile, it’s a race against time for Bobby, Nina and Alec as they try to locate the mystery pages at the heart of the case. SH
